NEED FOR COUNSELLING
Human – Beings have always had problems probably ever since the beginning of speech they have told their troubles to each other. Bhagavath Gita, Biblical stories and other early literature refer to wise men to whom others went to counsel.
Counselling is an interactive process conjoining the counselee who needs assistance and the counsellor, who is trained and educated to give assistance.
Today, there is a serious need for counselling as 21st century is called as the ‘The Age of Anxiety’. Students, members of distributed families and many others in the society look for personal, academic and vocational guidance from the professional counsellors.
“Teachers as the Master of Guidance or Counsellor, student as the counselee or the client ... is like ... ‘Helping John to see through himself in order to see himself through’’.
OBJECTIVES OF COUNSELLING CENTER
• The purpose of giving student counselling is to give the Student information on matters important to her success.
• To get information about students, this will be of help in solving their problems.
• Helping pupils to make a satisfactory transition from home to adjust in college.
• Helping the potential drop out to stay in college.
• To help the students to know herself better, her interests, abilities, aptitudes and opportunities.
• To enable them to get information about educational and vocational opportunities and requirements.
• To help in the development of individuals self- concept.
• To help them in the arena of personal and social adjustment, educational and vocational problems.
• To establish a feeling of understanding between a student and a teacher.
